Derek Teaney is Professor of Physics at Stony Brook University, having joined the department
in 2007 as a RIKEN fellow. He received his Ph.D. from Stony Brook, and B.S. from Yale. He
was the recipient of an Outstanding Junior Investigator (OJI) award in 2007 and a Sloan
Fellowship in 2008. His primary interests are the statistical and kinetic properties of Quantum
Chromodynamics at high temperatures and densities, and more generally of relativistic field
theories in this domain. At a practical level, Dr. Teaney is interested in the phenomenology of
ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions, which provide a unique laboratory for studying QCD in the
high temperature regime.
